Billy Farmer's Bio:
Billy Farmer was born in Wilson, North Carolina and has based his career on a special cultural relationship between music and art. Having majored in music and receiving a B.A. degree at the Atlantic Christian College, Billy studied at the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Billy taught music and was a band leader to many students in Wilson, Catawba and Wake Counties, North Carolina; as well as being a respected jazz pianist. After a successful teaching career, Billy's interest in painting and art became a new career that would add to his cultural relationship to this area. Specializing in watercolor, acrylics, charcoal and pastel, Billy’s love of colors, light and shadows creates a unique style that has made him one of the best known local artist. Living in Franklin County now, Billy concentrates on architectural, nautical and rural landscape scenes of North Carolina from the past and present.
Billy Farmer has studied art at Barton College with Norbert Irvin and John Hancock, as well as attending workshops, and private or class study with Charles Reid, Tony van Hasslelt, Arne Westernman, Louanna Winner, and Pat Bowers. As part of his learning process, Billy has received critique sessions from Joe Cox, deceased, former head of the School of Design, North Carolina State University and Ben Williams, former curator of the North Carolina State Museum of Art, Retired.
His many Shows and Exhibitions in North Carolina include The Little Art Gallery in Raleigh, Wilson and Goldsboro Arts Centers, Nash and Edgecombe County Arts Centers, Raleigh's Woman's Club, Sunflower Studio of Wake Forest, Forest Hills Club in Wilson, Valentine-Fuller in Nashville, and Greenpark Inn of Blowing Rock. Billy Farmer's work is currently represented in North Carolina by The Little Art Gallery in Raleigh, and Valentine-Fuller in Nashville.
